Sherry Fei

Sherry Fei is a freelancer who has worked as a private tutor, a clerk in a public institution, and a convenience store cashier. She could never bring herself to trade her flexible, self-directed days for the stability of a conventional job — so she chose freelancing. Whenever people question her seemingly “idle” lifestyle, she always gives the same answer:

“After twenty years of being confined to the student life, I need afew years of freedom to let my life breathe.”

Sherry completed her undergraduate studies at Shandong University, where she lived in Jinan for five years. She majored in Chinese Language and Literature, often feeling grateful that she was able to study what she truly loved. Before that, she spent a year and a half learning Spanish, and in the summer of her junior year, she joined a month-long study program in Japan — which sparked her interest in Japanese and led her to begin self-studying the language. Though she jokingly refers to herself as “barely a beginner” in every language she learns, she is very much a multilingual learner.

Sherry began traveling solo during
university, exploring cities across China. The moments and encounters on the road always remind her of the vitality of life and serve as the wellspring of her writing. So far, she has visited more than 40 cities in China and abroad, including:

Shaoxing, Xi’an, Luoyang, Qingdao, Chengdu, Dali, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuxi, Suzhou, Delingha, Huzhou, Nanjing, Datong (Shanxi), Yantai, Dalian, Weihai, Chongqing, Wushan, Yichang, Jining, Zibo, Guiyang, Anshun, Zhijin, Bijie, Wuhan, Suzhou (Anhui), Kunming, Tengchong, as well as Hong Kong, Macau, and multiple cities in Japan such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, Uji, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto.

Born and raised in Hangzhou, Sherry carries both the poetic calm of an ancient Jiangnan water town and the fresh dynamism of a modern tech-driven city. She enjoys everything from the Kunqu classic The Peony Pavilion to the Broadway musical Chicago. Whether in Hangzhou or any other place she visits, she is passionate about appreciating its surface charm, uncovering its deeper cultural layers, and observing the rhythms of daily life.

Travel with Sherry — whether in person or through her writing — and you’ll experience a warm, distinctive perspective that reveals a world full of feeling, texture, and human connection.
