Beijing Tai Chi: Learn Chinese Kong Fu With Locals

Sale price$888.00

About Taichi in Beijing

Taichi — an ancient form of meditation and martial art.

For locals, Taichi is more than exercise — it’s a way to find stillness. In parks like Temple of Heaven, Jingshan... you’ll see Beijingers of all ages practicing graceful movements that look like dance but feel like meditation. Under the soft light of dawn, some move alone, others gather in small circles, guided by retired masters who have taught for decades.

You’ll join them, guided by a local friend who knows both the art and the life behind it. Learn how each movement connects to the rhythm of breath, how softness can overcome force, and how peace can be practiced, one step at a time.

After practice, locals often gather for tea or brunch nearby — soy milk, youtiao, or steamed buns — chatting about everything from the weather to philosophy. You’ll feel part of this quiet, beautiful morning routine.

The Routes

Your morning begins at Temple of Heaven. As the sun rises, light filters through ancient pine trees, locals gather in open courtyards and quiet corners, moving slowly, their arms tracing circles.

You’ll meet your local Taichi friend near the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests — the heart of the temple complex — and begin your practice together. They’ll teach you the basics: how to stand still, breathe deeply, and move as one with your breath. Each movement flows into the next like water, calm but powerful, gentle yet full of intention.

After practicing, you’ll take a slow walk around the park, passing groups of locals playing Chinese chess, singing opera, or simply chatting under old trees. The park becomes a living portrait of Beijing’s morning rhythm — peaceful, communal, alive.

Finally, your local friend will take you to a nearby tea house or a traditional breakfast shop. Over a bowl of soy milk, a few youtiao, and warm steamed buns, you’ll talk about Taichi, life, and the beauty of slowing down in a fast-moving world.

By the time you finish, the city will be fully awake — but you’ll carry with you a quiet calm that lasts long after the morning ends.
