The Routes

Step into the vibrant world of Beijing’s local life through one of China’s most beloved traditions—Mahjong! Just like a high-stakes game of Texas Hold’em, Mahjong is filled with strategy, bluffing, laughter, and unforgettable social interaction.

Your journey begins with being matched with a friendly local Mahjong partner who speaks English. They will be your personal guide into the world of Mahjong. You’ll meet in front of a cozy local Mahjong parlor, where your experience starts with a relaxed, one-hour hands-on lesson. You’ll learn the basics—tile names, rules, game flow, and local Beijing playing styles.

Once you're comfortable with the tiles and confident in your skills, the real fun begins! Two more local Mahjong players will join you, forming a full table of four. For the next three hours, you'll enjoy an authentic, energetic game session—complete with laughter, teasing, friendly rivalries, and lots of exciting gameplay.

Throughout the experience, enjoy unlimited complimentary Chinese tea and traditional local snacks. Expect moments of joy, playful frustration, surprise victories, and possibly even some playful tricks and mock outrage—it’s all part of the fun!

Mahjong = Perfect Day

I came for the Mahjong, but the real highlight was Yue! She made learning the game fun, patient, and full of laughs — even when I kept building the wrong hand. Between the tea, snacks, and Yue’s hilarious stories, it felt more like hanging out with a friend than taking a class. I may have lost every round, but I left grinning — and with a new friend in Beijing!
